I want to talk with you today about speaking to your audience on camera. Let’s talk about content. First off — you HAVE to have something that people want to hear about! If your content is not worth the listener’s time, then you’re toast. I’m a film producer, and a music producer too, and the thing that keeps me on my toes when I’m watching an edit, or listening to a new song, is finding the exact second that I get bored. Gotta move on! Gotta find something more interesting to put there! So — first — don’t bore your listener.
The best way to do make sure it’s interesting, useful information, is to PLAN, PLAN, PLAN. There’s a famous quote by President Wilson where he mused “If I am to speak ten minutes, I need a week for preparation; if fifteen minutes, three days; if half an hour, two days; if an hour, I am ready now.” He knew that in order to be succinct and compelling, you have to plan in advance!
So remember, for today, have something they want to hear about, make it not boring, and PLAN your TALK!
